Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes Nitish Kumar and BJP for Not Granting Special Status to Bihar

Patna (Bihar), July 25: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has accused the BJP-led central government of deceiving the people of Bihar by not granting the state Special Status. He also criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for remaining silent on the issue.

Yadav stated, “We knew beforehand that BJP-NDA will not give Special Status to Bihar and that JD(U) too is doing drama. With just a small amendment, other poor states like Bihar can be given Special Status. Big amendments have been made earlier too. It is our long-standing demand…NDA has deceived the people of Bihar. CM used to say that he would agitate and hit the streets. Now, the CM is not uttering even a word over Special Status to Bihar.”

Recently, the central government rejected JD(U)’s request for special category status for Bihar. Yadav also claimed that corruption has increased under Nitish Kumar’s governance, stating, “If probed fairly, Nitish Kumar too would bear the brunt of it.”

On the other hand, senior JD(U) leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh expressed satisfaction with the allocation of funds for Bihar in the Union Budget 2024, highlighting the abundance of packages for infrastructure, tourism, and irrigation.

Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary explained that special status cannot be granted to Bihar based on the Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) report from 2012. The report stated that Bihar does not meet the criteria set by the National Development Council (NDC) for Special Category Status.
