Unpaid Salaries and Increments Spark Outrage

In Karachi, teachers at the Federal Urdu University of Arts Science and Technology (FUAST) staged a protest due to unpaid salaries and increments. The protest escalated as teachers locked the administration block at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Science campus. They also expressed dissatisfaction with the Higher Education Commission’s chairman.

Vice Chancellor Blocked

Vice Chancellor Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari was prevented from entering his office by the protesting teachers. Attempts to break the lock were thwarted by female teachers. Despite police presence, the block remained locked until 1:30 pm.

Demands for Payment

Teachers highlighted that while employees in Islamabad received their salaries with increments, those at the Karachi campus did not. They are demanding the payment of three-month pensions, seven months’ house allowance, and two months’ salary with increments for retired employees.

Call for Intervention

The teachers have appealed to the Federal Minister for Education for a resolution. They vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met, citing financial and mental stress due to the non-payment.
