Tariq Hameed Karra Criticizes LG’s MLA Nominations

In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra expressed disapproval over the decision to allow the Lieutenant Governor to nominate five additional MLAs to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Karra believes these MLAs will likely support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but he does not anticipate issues in forming the government. He stated, “The nomination of five MLAs by the LG is unconstitutional and undemocratic, and we have initiated action in this regard.”

Election Results and Alliances

The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, is set to nominate five members in addition to the 90 elected members of the Assembly. The Congress congratulated J&K National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah for winning 42 seats. The NC-Congress pre-poll alliance secured 48 seats, positioning them to form the government.

Leadership Decisions

Farooq Abdullah announced Omar Abdullah as the next Chief Minister. Omar expressed gratitude but emphasized that the decision rests with the legislators and the alliance. “I am grateful for my father’s confidence, but the final decision lies with the legislators,” Omar Abdullah said.
