Marking 100 years since the announcement of the discovery of the Indus Valley Civilization, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced the installation of a life-size statue of John Marshall in Tamil Nadu. Stalin shared this news on platform X, expressing gratitude for Marshall’s contributions.

John Marshall was the Director-General of the Archaeological Survey of India from 1902 to 1928. He led the excavations that uncovered Harappa and Mohenjodaro, two major cities of the Indus Valley Civilization. His work linked the civilization to the Dravidian culture.

Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also commemorated the centenary on social media. He praised historian Nayanjot Lahiri’s book, ‘How the Indian Civilization was discovered,’ which details the discoveries and contributions of Indian archaeologists. Ramesh emphasized that Lahiri’s work is a definitive and authoritative account that educates and entertains without any political agenda.
