Chennai Faces Heavy Rainfall: CM MK Stalin and Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin Take Action

Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, is experiencing heavy rainfall, prompting Chief Minister MK Stalin to inspect the affected areas. During his visit, he shared tea with rescue workers, showing solidarity with those on the ground.

Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Efforts

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the Integrated Control and Command Centre in Chennai. He reported that Sholinganallur and Teynampet received the highest rainfall of 6 cm. Despite the downpour, no power cuts were reported, and tree falls in eight areas are being addressed by teams on duty.

Response and Measures

To manage the situation, 26 teams from the National and State Disaster Response Forces are positioned in Chennai and coastal areas. Two subways are flooded, and traffic is closed. Water stagnation is being addressed with pumping motors, and health camps have been set up in 1,000 locations statewide, including 100 in Chennai.

Government Actions

In response to the forecasted heavy rain, the government declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu. Residents in Velachery are taking precautions by parking vehicles on flyovers. An advisory for fishermen has been issued, and IT employees are advised to work from home.
