Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin Honors Freedom Fighter Maveeran Alagumuthu Kone

On Thursday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin paid tribute to freedom fighter Maveeran Alagumuthu Kone on his birth anniversary in Chennai. According to Tamil Nadu’s Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Chief Minister Stalin, along with party members, honored the valiant freedom fighter in the state capital.

Who Was Maveeran Alagumuthu Kone?

Maveeran Alagumuthu Kone, born on July 11, 1728, in Kattalankulam, Thoothukudi District, was India’s first freedom fighter. He was an Indian polygar who led a revolt against the British presence in Tamil Nadu. From 1750 to 1759, he waged a war against the Presidency armies.

His Battle and Legacy

Alagumuthu Kone was eventually defeated in battle against the British and Maruthanayagam’s forces in 1759. In his memory, the government of Tamil Nadu conducts a Pooja ceremony every year on July 11.
