Tamil Nadu BJP Criticizes DMK Over Chennai Air Show Incident

In Chennai, Tamil Nadu, a recent Indian Air Force Air Adventure Program faced criticism from the opposition, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Narayanan Thirupathy, the Vice President of BJP Tamil Nadu, described the event as “unfortunate” and held the ruling DMK government accountable for the lack of basic facilities.

Thirupathy expressed his concerns in a video, stating that while the air show was enjoyed by many, the Chennai Corporation, Tamil Nadu government, and local police failed to cooperate with the public. He attributed the loss of five lives and numerous hospitalizations to poor planning and traffic management, urging the government to take responsibility and ensure such incidents do not recur.

Former Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary, Edappadi K Palaniswami, also criticized the DMK government, claiming the deaths were due to heatstroke. In contrast, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian defended the government’s efforts, stating that full administrative cooperation was provided, and arrangements were made in consultation with Air Force officers.

Despite the deployment of around 7500 police personnel, AIADMK leader Kovai Sathyan called for the Health Minister’s resignation, labeling the event as “complete mismanagement.” The air show was organized by the Indian Air Force at Chennai’s Marina Beach in anticipation of the 92nd Air Force Day.
