Taiwan Thanks US and Japan for Standing Up to China

Taiwan welcomed the joint statement from the Japan-US Security Consultative Committee (SCC) condemning China’s attempts to reshape the international order for its benefit. The meeting was attended by Kamikawa Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Kihara Minoru, Minister of Defense, from Japan, and Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, and Lloyd Austin, Secretary of Defense, from the US.

The statement highlighted that China employs political, economic, and military coercion to achieve its objectives, which is a serious concern for the international community. It emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

Japan and the US reiterated their opposition to China’s attempts to change the status quo by force in the East China Sea and around the Senkaku Islands. Taiwan expressed gratitude to the US and Japan for their attention to peace in the Taiwan Strait and vowed to work with them to uphold freedom, democracy, and the rule of law in the Indo-Pacific region.
