Taiwan Condemns Brunei and China's Joint Statement on 'One China' Policy
Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has strongly criticized a recent joint statement by Brunei and China, which claims Taiwan as part of Chinese territory. MOFA firmly rejected this assertion, emphasizing Taiwan's status as a sovereign and independent nation, not under China's jurisdiction. This statement followed Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's visit to Beijing, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Robert Hsieh Bor-Huei, Deputy Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India, challenged China's 'One China Policy' at The Siang Dialogue 2.0 in New Delhi. He called the policy a 'scam,' asserting that Taiwan has been separate from China since 1949, with its own government and democratic system. Hsieh highlighted Taiwan's importance in the Indo-Pacific region and warned of China's regional ambitions, including covert efforts to occupy Japan's Okinawa.
Hsieh stressed the need for democratic nations to unite against China's growing assertions, which threaten regional autonomy. He also noted Taiwan's strong ties with India and its crucial role in global technology supply chains, particularly in semiconductor production, underscoring its strategic importance.
