Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], September 5: Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, has written to President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He has requested them to withdraw the President’s Police Medal and Police Medal awarded to Vineet Goyal, the current Commissioner of Police in Kolkata. Adhikari alleges that Goyal’s conduct during the investigation of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College was shameful.

In a post on X, Adhikari shared, “I have written a letter to the President of India Droupadi Murmu Ji requesting her to withdraw/forfeit the prestigious President’s Police Medal and Police Medal conferred upon Vineet Goyal; IPS, (West Bengal: RR – 1994), presently Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, in connection with his reprehensible, deplorable and shameful conduct during the course of investigations into the rape and murder of the Resident Doctor of RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata.”

Adhikari further alleged that Goyal was involved in destroying evidence and was inactive during the vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 14, 2024. He claimed that Goyal’s actions were aimed at protecting influential individuals and covering up issues in the health sector of West Bengal.

Adhikari stated that Goyal’s actions have damaged the reputation of the Kolkata Police and worsened the law and order situation in West Bengal. He also mentioned that he had urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene and censure the West Bengal Government for not taking appropriate steps.

In a recent development, a family member of the victim accused the Kolkata Police of offering them money while they were mourning their daughter’s death. The aunt of the deceased doctor criticized the police for their lack of responsibility and support after the last rites were performed.
