Supreme Court Upholds UP Madrasa Board
A Victory for Justice, Says Maulana Madani
The Supreme Court of India has affirmed the constitutional validity of the UP Madrasa Board. This decision was hailed by Maulana Mahmood Asa’d Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, as a “victory for justice” and a “much-needed light at the end of the tunnel” for the Indian Muslim community.
Maulana Madani stated that the ruling addresses more than just the technical status of the Madrasa Board; it counters ongoing “negative campaigns” against madrasas by certain communal forces. He highlighted the Supreme Court’s role in reaffirming fundamental constitutional principles and safeguarding minority rights.
Reflecting on the Chief Justice of India’s remark, “Live and let live,” Maulana Madani emphasized its importance as a guiding principle for every Indian. He noted that the decision sends a powerful message of justice across the nation, especially at a time when Muslims feel marginalized.
Maulana Madani also praised the UP Madrasa Teachers’ Association for their efforts in securing this verdict through legal channels, commending their commitment to educational rights and constitutional principles.
Maulana Waheedullah Khan Saeedi, National General Secretary of the All India Teachers’ Association for Arabic Madrasas, along with other officials, expressed gratitude to Maulana Madani and Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi for their support in challenging the High Court’s decision. Their collaboration, supported by Jamiat’s legal advisor Maulana Niaz Ahmed Farooqi, was invaluable throughout the legal proceedings.
