Supreme Court Petitioned to Audit and Fix Bihar’s Bridges After Multiple Collapses
A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by advocate Brajesh Singh, urging the Bihar Government to conduct a high-level structural audit of all existing and under-construction bridges in the state. The petition highlights the urgent need for this audit due to multiple bridge collapses in the past two years, which have resulted in fatalities and injuries.
The petitioner emphasized that Bihar, being the most flood-prone state in India, faces a higher risk from these incidents. He called for the urgent intervention of the Supreme Court to save lives and prevent future collapses.
The petition also seeks the implementation of real-time monitoring of bridges using sensors, similar to guidelines issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Additionally, it calls for the creation of a permanent body of experts to continuously monitor and maintain a database on the health of all bridges in Bihar.
The Public Interest Litigation highlights various bridge collapses in districts such as Araria, Siwan, Madhubani, and Kishanganj.
