New Delhi, India – Indian Paralympics gold medallist Sumit Antil expressed his joy on Tuesday after successfully defending his title. Sumit, who won gold at the Tokyo Paralympics, dominated the F64 javelin throw event in Paris, breaking the Paralympic record twice.

Sumit started with a throw of 69.11m, surpassing his previous record of 68.55m set in Tokyo. He then improved his record with a second throw of 70.59m. Sumit shared that his hard work paid off and he felt proud to defend his title.

Sumit also mentioned the growing talent in Indian javelin throwing, hoping for a stronger team in the future. He praised Neeraj Chopra, whose success has brought more recognition to the sport. Sumit plans to spend time with his family after a long period away.

The Indian team returned from the Paris Paralympics with a historic 29 medals, including seven golds, nine silvers, and 13 bronzes, surpassing their previous record of 19 medals from Tokyo 2020. India finished 18th overall.

Highlights included Avani Lekhara defending her women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 title with a world record score, and Dharambir and Parnav Soorma achieving a one-two finish in the men’s club throw F51 event. Praveen Kumar set an Asian record in the T64 high jump, and Harvinder Singh became India’s first archery champion in the Paralympics.

Sumit Antil’s record-breaking performance in the F64 javelin throw event marked him as the first Indian male to defend a Paralympics title, making history with his throw of 70.59m.
