Sukanta Majumdar Urges Amit Shah to Act Against Mamata Banerjee’s Statements
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 28: West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of promoting violence. Majumdar claims that Banerjee’s recent statements during an address to the Student Wing of TMC in Kolkata are an endorsement of revenge politics.
In his letter, Majumdar stated that Banerjee incited the gathering and declared, “I never sought revenge, but now, do what needs to be done.” He also accused her of making anti-national remarks, quoting her as saying, “Remember, if Bengal burns, then Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi will also burn.”
Majumdar demanded Banerjee’s immediate resignation, stating she no longer deserves to hold her position. He urged Amit Shah to take immediate action to uphold the rule of law and maintain public order in West Bengal.
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee condemned the BJP’s 12-hour ‘Bengal Bandh,’ calling it an attempt to defame Bengal. The bandh was in response to the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ violence, which followed the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
Banerjee claimed that the TMC government seeks justice for the victim, while the BJP’s bandh aims to defame the state. She supported police actions against the protestors of the Nabanna Abhijan rally.
The streets of Kolkata witnessed violence and chaos during a protest rally, leading to the BJP’s call for a 12-hour bandh. The rally was organized by the ‘Paschim Banga Chatra Samaj’ and other groups to protest the recent tragic incident at the medical college.
