Subhashini Ali Criticizes Congress Over Seat-Sharing in Jharkhand Elections

In New Delhi, CPI(M) Politburo member Subhashini Ali expressed dissatisfaction with the seat-sharing arrangement of the INDIA bloc for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. She criticized the Congress party for demanding more seats than its capabilities. The INDIA bloc includes the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and Left parties. Both RJD and Left parties are unhappy with the seat-sharing announced by JMM and Congress.

Ali stated that the era of voting solely for Congress is over, emphasizing the importance of alliances contesting elections together. She remarked, “There are disputes within parties over seat-sharing, and Congress often demands more than it can handle.”

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir announced that JMM and Congress would share 70 seats, leaving 11 for RJD and Left parties. RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha criticized this “unilateral decision,” stating that the limited seats offered to RJD are unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the BJP announced its first list of 66 candidates for the elections, with key figures like Babulal Marandi and Meera Munda contesting. The elections for Jharkhand’s 81 assembly seats will occur in two phases on November 13 and 20, with results on November 23.
