Students Protest in Delhi Over Deaths of UPSC Aspirants in Flooded Basement

Students in Delhi’s Old Rajender Nagar are holding massive protests after three UPSC aspirants died in a flooded basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle. The victims, Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nivin Dalwin from Kerala, were sent to RML Hospital for an autopsy.

According to DCP Central M Harshavardhan, students are demanding immediate action against the authorities. CPI MP V Sivadasan, who was present at the protest site, criticized the lack of safety audits and illegal operations of coaching centers. He stated, “Coaching owners conduct classes and set up a library in the basement without proper permission from the government. We demand a safety audit of all the coaching centers and strict rules should be made against them.”

On Sunday, Delhi police arrested two persons, the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching center. Dharmendra Yadav, uncle of Shreya Yadav, expressed grief over not being informed about her death by the coaching institute or administration. He said, “I received no information officially, either from the coaching institute or administration. I saw the news and approached them, but they denied showing me her body at the mortuary.”

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan also expressed condolences over the deaths of the students.
