Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam Highlights Odisha's Growth Potential
During a visit to Odisha, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam emphasized the state's potential for growth and development. He highlighted the importance of "enablers" like vaccine manufacturers, such as Bharat Biotech, to drive progress. Speaking at the Bharat Biotech plant, he noted Odisha's readiness to develop large-scale industrial parks in sectors like petrochemicals and smaller-scale parks in other manufacturing areas.
President Tharman stressed the need for developing capabilities and building a track record to enable scaling up, expressing confidence in Odisha's ability to achieve this. He mentioned other priorities for Odisha, including sustainability with green hydrogen and ammonia, and skills development, which are crucial for all sectors.
President Tharman's visit to India, from January 14-18, included a stop in Odisha with his wife. He expressed optimism after meeting young people at the World Skill Centre, who inspired him with their hope and optimism. The Ministry of External Affairs noted that his visit to the Bharat Biotech plant would bring "immense value" to both India and Singapore.
After concluding his two-day visit to Odisha, President Tharman departed for Delhi, with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik present at the airport to see him off.
