Shiromani Akali Dal Accuses AAP of Fraud in Punjab Panchayat Elections

In Chandigarh, Punjab, Advocate Arshdeep Singh Kler, the Chief Spokesperson for the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of fraudulent activities in the Punjab panchayat elections. Kler highlighted alleged irregularities in the nomination process, claiming that many individuals were prevented from filing nominations, and those who did faced wrongful rejections.

Kler noted that thousands of petitions were filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, with division benches criticizing the Punjab government for succumbing to AAP pressure. He mentioned that 270 panchayats had been stayed, complicating the electoral process. Kler stated that the court did not dispute the facts and accused AAP of using government machinery to favor their candidates.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed over 1,000 petitions seeking to cancel the upcoming elections, lifting the ban on 206 panchayats and allowing elections to proceed on October 15. The court emphasized that only the Election Commission can intervene in the electoral process and mandated videography and recording of the elections.

Despite the court’s decision, SAD plans to challenge the order in the Supreme Court. Advocate Hakam Singh confirmed that nearly 1,000 writ petitions were filed, and the stay on 250 petitions was vacated. The legal battle is expected to continue as attorneys plan to approach the Supreme Court.
