Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed Celebrates National Conference Victory in Jammu and Kashmir Elections

In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed, the National Conference candidate who won the Lal Chowk assembly seat, expressed his joy over the election results. He stated that the people have shown their trust in the National Conference (NC) once again, despite attempts by the BJP to weaken the party.

The Election Commission of India reported that the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) secured 42 seats, while its ally, Congress, won 6 seats. This puts their alliance in a strong position to form the government. The BJP, however, won 29 seats, all in the Jammu region. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also made its mark by winning the Doda assembly constituency, with Mehraj Malik defeating BJP’s Gajay Singh Rana.

As the NC-Congress alliance moved towards a clear majority, Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference, criticized exit polls, calling them a “waste of time” and suggesting that those who believe in them deserve to be mocked.

Following the alliance’s success, National Conference chief and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah announced that his son, Omar Abdullah, would be the next Chief Minister of the Union Territory. He emphasized that the election results show the people’s rejection of the decision made on August 5.
