Shashi Tharoor Discusses Close US Election and India-Canada Diplomatic Tensions

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor commented on the tight race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, noting that the election results could change as counting moves from rural to urban areas. Tharoor explained that rural areas, which are counted first, tend to favor Trump, while urban areas lean Democratic. He highlighted the challenges of the counting process, referencing the 2020 election when Trump contested results in several states. Current projections show Trump with 246 electoral votes and Harris with 210, with 270 needed to win.

Tharoor also addressed the India-Canada diplomatic row, emphasizing the importance of involving all parties in such issues. He mentioned a briefing by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on India’s foreign relations, including tensions with Canada. Relations between India and Canada have worsened following allegations by Canadian leaders regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The situation escalated with a violent incident at a Hindu temple in Canada, prompting criticism and a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
