SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch to Appear Before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee

On Thursday, Madhabi Puri Buch, the Chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), is set to appear before the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in New Delhi. The meeting, scheduled for 11 am, will be led by K C Venugopal from the Congress party. The agenda includes reviewing the performance of regulatory bodies established by the Act of Parliament, with representatives from the finance ministry and SEBI providing oral evidence.

Additionally, the meeting will cover the performance review of the Ministry of Communications, Department of Telecommunications, and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. This follows a recent joint statement by Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband, Dhaval Buch, refuting allegations against them as false and malicious. These allegations, based on their Income Tax Returns, were claimed to be obtained illegally. Pawan Khera from Congress had accused Madhabi Puri Buch of receiving income from ICICI Bank and ICICI Prudential while serving as a SEBI member. ICICI Bank clarified that no payments were made to her post-retirement, except for retiral benefits.
