Search Continues for Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, Indian Tourist, in Kuala Lumpur Sinkhole

Authorities in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are continuing their search for Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, an Indian national who fell into a sinkhole on August 23. The Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur reported that search and rescue (SAR) teams are methodically exploring new paths and likely locations to find her.

Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, 48, was a tourist in Malaysia and disappeared after falling into an 8-meter-deep hole while walking to a temple for breakfast. The ground suddenly caved in, causing the incident.

In a post on X, the Indian High Commission in Malaysia stated, “The search continues to locate Indian citizen (Ms Vijaya Lakshmi Gali) who fell into a sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur on Friday 23 Aug. The SAR teams are methodically deducing newer probable paths and likely locations of the missing Indian national.”

Local authorities, including the Police, Fire & Rescue Department, Indah Water Consortium, and KL Federal Territories agencies, are now supported by Civil Defence Forces and specialized scientific teams with sophisticated equipment. These teams are using high-pressure water jets to remove obstacles, remote cameras, and ground-penetrating radars to map inaccessible areas.

The Indian High Commission added that officials remain in touch with her family to provide continued support. “@hcikl is in close contact with the relevant agencies engaged in the search efforts as the search has entered its fifth day. @hcikl officers are also in touch with the family members to extend continued support,” the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur posted on X.
