SCO Summit in Pakistan: Metro Bus Service Halted and Security Measures Tightened

In preparation for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Pakistan has announced several measures to ensure a smooth event. The Metro Bus Service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be suspended from October 14 to 17, as ordered by the district administration. The Metro Bus network, a modern public transport route inaugurated in 2015, will operate normally until October 13.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will lead the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting. Attendees include leaders from China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Mongolia’s Prime Minister and Turkmenistan’s deputy chairman will also participate.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will close its Islamabad offices from October 14 to 16 as a security measure. Section 144 has been imposed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Karachi, prohibiting public gatherings and other activities until October 17. The Punjab government has extended these restrictions to five districts, including Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh.

Additionally, a three-day public holiday for educational institutes in Islamabad has been declared from October 14 to 16. Traders and hotel owners have been warned of penalties for any violations during this period.
