Sanjiv Ranjan Appointed as Secretary General of Indian Ocean Rim Association in Mauritius

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal from the Ministry of External Affairs for Sanjiv Ranjan to take up the role of Secretary General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) in Mauritius. Ranjan, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from the 1993 batch, will begin his three-year term on January 1, 2025.

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pension stated, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of Ministry of External Affairs seeking approval of the competent authority to enable Shri Sanjiv Ranjan, FS (1993) to take up the foreign assignment as Secretary General Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), Secretariat, Mauritius for a period of three years w.e.f. 01.01.2025, including the period up to his superannuation, ie, 31.01.2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

About IORA

The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) is an inter-governmental organization established in 1997 to promote regional economic cooperation. The IORA Secretariat is located in Mauritius and is led by a Secretary General with a fixed term. IORA has 23 member states, including India, Australia, and South Africa, and 12 dialogue partners, such as China, the European Union, and the United States. In 2015, IORA became an observer to the UN General Assembly and the African Union.
