Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 20: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Sanjay Raut has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over a recent government order in Uttar Pradesh. The order requires shopkeepers to display nameplates with the owner’s name, which Raut believes will divide the country and harm its unity.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Raut questioned the BJP’s intentions, asking, “Now you (BJP) are directing food stalls to put up nameplates based on caste and religion? Do you want to divide the country? You won’t profit from it. You are breaking the nation’s unity.”

Raut emphasized that while Shiv Sena supports Hindutva ideals, it does not endorse creating societal divisions. He mentioned, “Kanwar Yatra, Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura are matters of pride. We have struggled for Hindutva, even more than the BJP. Till when will we continue this Hindu-Muslim, India-Pakistan game?”

Raut also criticized BJP’s coalition partners, calling them “slaves of power” and questioning the roles of Nitish Kumar, Chandrababu Naidu, and Chirag Paswan. He challenged them to oppose the BJP’s policies that create societal divisions.

On Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mandated that food and beverage shops along Kanwar routes display the name and identity of the operator/owner to maintain the sanctity of the pilgrims’ faith. Additionally, action will be taken against those selling halal-certified products. This move has sparked a political debate between the BJP and the opposition.
