S Jaishankar’s Visit to Switzerland: Promoting Human Rights and Traditional Medicine

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar concluded his two-day visit to Switzerland, where he interacted with several top dignitaries and shared India’s approach to multilateralism, human rights, and traditional medicine systems.

Meetings with International Leaders

During his visit, Jaishankar met with the leadership of International Organisations in Geneva, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, and the Director General of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. He discussed India’s perspectives on human rights and ways to deepen cooperation in public health.

Dedication of New Facilities

Jaishankar dedicated the newly built Permanent Mission of India in Geneva, which houses Indian Missions dealing with the UN and other International organisations. He also dedicated a statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar and named a hall in memory of Hansa Mehta, a key figure in promoting gender equality.

Community Engagement

Jaishankar interacted with the Indian community and Friends of India at the Permanent Mission, highlighting India’s rapid progress and vision for global engagement. He also delivered a talk on ‘Global Tectonics: The Indian View of a World in Churn’ at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy.

Discussions with Swiss Foreign Minister

In a special gesture, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis hosted Jaishankar in Geneva. They discussed bilateral ties, focusing on leveraging the Free Trade Agreement between India and EFTA States to boost trade and investments, as well as global and regional issues of mutual interest.
