S Jaishankar Talks About India’s Stance on Ukraine Conflict in Tokyo

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, while speaking to the press in Tokyo, clarified India’s position on the Ukraine conflict. He emphasized that the use of force does not resolve problems between countries and highlighted the significant impact of the conflict over the past 2.5 years.

Jaishankar mentioned that there would likely be more contact between India and both Ukraine and Russia. He recalled recent meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the G7 Summit in Italy, as well as PM Modi’s visit to Moscow, where he met with President Vladimir Putin.

During the G7 Summit, PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to fostering a peaceful resolution to the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine. In Russia, PM Modi was presented with the Order of St Andrew the Apostle the First-Called, Russia’s highest civilian honor, by President Putin. This award was originally bestowed on PM Modi in 2019, but he received it physically during his visit.

India has always advocated for peace and diplomacy in resolving conflicts and continues to purchase Russian oil despite objections from Western nations.
