S Jaishankar Congratulates Hamdan Mohammed on UAE Deputy PM and Defence Minister Appointment
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar congratulated Hamdan Mohammed on his new roles as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE. Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for Mohammed’s support in strengthening India-UAE relations.
The announcement was made by Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who highlighted Hamdan’s leadership qualities. He stated, “Hamdan Adheed…and a support…and a leader who loves the people…and the people love him… and we have great confidence that he will be a great addition to the UAE government… and a major contributor to shaping the future of the UAE, God willing.”
India and the UAE enjoy strong cooperation at the United Nations. Both countries are also part of several international platforms such as BRICS, I2U2 (India-Israel-UAE-USA), UFI (UAE-France-India), and more. Their trade relationship, which historically included items like dates, pearls, and fish, evolved significantly after the discovery of oil in the UAE.
