Rohini Court Sentences Man for Crime Against Minor
A 60-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Rohini court for raping and impregnating a minor in 2018. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the convict, to be given to the victim as compensation. Special Judge Sushil Bala Dagar highlighted the issue of children being victims of sexual offenses by people they know, such as family members or neighbors.
The judge emphasized that society must protect children from such exploitation, as they are the future. The convict was found guilty under section 6 of the POCSO Act and section 376 (2)(i) of the IPC. Additional Public Prosecutor Yogita Kaushik argued for maximum punishment to deter similar crimes. The victim, a minor girl, gave birth to a baby, which she left on the street. Despite the convict's influence over the victim's family, medical evidence confirmed his guilt.
