Robinder Sachdev Discusses S Jaishankar’s Key Speech at SCO Meeting in Islamabad

In New Delhi, Foreign Affairs expert Robinder Sachdev shared his thoughts on External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s recent address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting. Jaishankar emphasized the need for SCO to focus on its original goals of combating terrorism, insurgency, and separatism. This message was delivered during the 23rd Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government in Islamabad.

Jaishankar identified cross-border terrorism, extremism, and separatism as major obstacles to trade and travel between countries. Sachdev highlighted that these issues were the founding objectives of SCO, and Jaishankar’s speech reinforced the importance of addressing them.

Sachdev also pointed out that Pakistan is seen as a central hub of terrorism in the region and urged SCO to tackle this issue to maintain its relevance. He noted that Jaishankar’s message would have been the same regardless of the meeting’s location, as it reflects the current needs of the organization.

Additionally, Jaishankar’s speech included a message to China regarding territorial sovereignty, referencing the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. Former diplomat Mahesh Sachdev described the speech as significant, especially given the context of the meeting being held in Islamabad for the first time in nearly a decade.
