A riot broke out in Nagamangala, a town in Karnataka’s Mandya district, during a Ganesh immersion procession. The trouble started when some youths from other religious groups allegedly pelted stones at the procession near a dargah on Mysore Road.

Following the stone-pelting incident, a fight erupted between the groups, leading to a riot-like situation. Shops were set on fire, and two police officers were injured. The police had to intervene to control the situation, and prohibitory orders were imposed in the town.

Union Minister and former Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy, condemned the incident. He criticized the state government, accusing it of appeasement politics and failing to maintain peace and order. Kumaraswamy urged the government to take immediate action to restore peace in the town.

The police have detained several people and are investigating the incident. Prohibitory orders will remain in place until the situation is fully under control.
