In Assam’s Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, a rhino poaching attempt was stopped thanks to quick action by the police and forest department. The Field Director, Sonali Ghosh, announced that two poachers, Rasidul Haque and Sibe Ali, were arrested on October 26. They were caught while planning to hunt a rhino with others. An investigation is ongoing to find more people involved.

Park Reopens for Tourist Season

Kaziranga National Park reopened on October 1 for the 2024-25 tourist season after being closed for the monsoon. Assam Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, along with other officials, attended the reopening event. The park is now open for Jeep Safari in three ranges: Kaziranga Range, Western Range, and Burapahar Range.

Conservation Efforts

Kaziranga is known worldwide for its rhino conservation, with 2,613 rhinos as of 2022. The park’s success is due to strict protection, smart patrolling, and community involvement, which have reduced human-wildlife conflicts and strengthened conservation efforts.
