Rescue Teams Ensure Safe Passage for Pilgrims After Landslide in Kedarnath

In Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, rescue forces created an alternate route for pilgrims after a landslide damaged the Kedarnath trek route near Jungle Chatti. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and police assisted pilgrims on the new path.

The Uttarakhand Police had earlier advised pilgrims to wait safely until the route was restored. The landslide, which occurred about one kilometer ahead of Gaurikund, completely halted movement. Pilgrims returning from Kedarnath were evacuated with the help of police, NDRF, and SDRF teams.

District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar inspected the damaged road and landslide-affected area between Sonprayag and Gaurikund. He instructed the Sector Magistrate and other employees to prioritize the safety of the pilgrims.

The landslide, caused by heavy rains on September 9, resulted in five deaths and three injuries. Authorities conducted a joint operation to rescue those buried under debris.
