Reliance Jio and Indian Army Aid in Wayanad Landslide Rescue Efforts
Reliance Jio has installed a second dedicated tower to provide reliable connectivity in the landslide-affected areas of Wayanad, Kerala. This move, requested by the State Disaster Management Authority, aims to assist distressed residents, rescue workers, and disaster management teams.
The Indian Army has ramped up its rescue operations, successfully evacuating several people from affected areas. Troops from the Army’s Madras Sappers constructed a 100ft footbridge overnight at Choorlamalai, which will aid in the quick evacuation of stranded people. Major General VT Mathew, General Officer Commanding, Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area, stated that the bridge would allow the Army to bring heavy equipment to the rescue site.
Major General Mathew reported that over 100 bodies were recovered after multiple landslides struck Wayanad on July 30, with more than 500 Army personnel engaged in the search and rescue operation. Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed that 154 bodies have been handed over to the district administration. The Prime Minister’s Office announced compensation for the families of the victims and the injured.
