Ravichandran Ashwin Praises Bangladesh Cricket Team After Victory Over Pakistan
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 19: Indian star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has praised the Bangladesh cricket team following their recent triumph against Pakistan. This victory has garnered significant attention in the cricketing world.
The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team and Bangladesh are set to play a two-match series, with the second match scheduled in Kanpur. Ashwin acknowledged Bangladesh’s exceptional performance, highlighting their rapid rise in international cricket. He stated, “They have put their hand up and said, ‘look, we are a team on the rise and we are playing wonderful cricket.'”
Despite not being able to watch the series live, Ashwin was impressed by the clips he saw. He expressed his admiration for underdog teams, noting that Bangladesh can no longer be considered underdogs due to their impressive performance. “You can’t call them an underdog anymore; they have played some wonderful cricket,” he added.
Bangladesh’s recent performance against Pakistan, where they whitewashed them, is a testament to their growing prowess. Ashwin also recalled their strong challenge against India during their last encounter in Bangladesh. “They challenged us in Bangladesh when we were there the last time,” he remarked.
Looking forward to future encounters, Ashwin anticipates competitive and high-quality cricket from Bangladesh. “Really looking forward to a good series,” he said.
Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bowl first against India at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Shanto explained, “There’s moisture on the wicket and we want to make use of it. The pitch looks hard and there’s moisture. The first session will be very good for the seamers.”
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma mentioned that he would have chosen to bowl first as well, citing challenging conditions. He emphasized the importance of preparation and confidence, stating, “We have prepared well, so we should back our potential and play the way we know.”
