In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India’s famous off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared that the team thought about forfeiting an inning after rain and a wet outfield delayed more than two days of play in the second Test against Bangladesh. Despite the challenges, India delivered an outstanding performance.

On Day 4, Bangladesh resumed their inning at 107/3. With two days left, India was determined to push for a result. There were discussions about forfeiting the inning, but the intense heat and harsh conditions made it difficult. Ashwin explained, “We were considering whether we should forfeit an innings, but the heat was so intense. These are harsh conditions–sweating profusely, I had to change shirts four times in a day, and it still wasn’t enough.”

India decided to bat and declared at 285/9, gaining a 52-run lead. India’s bowlers then delivered a performance that forced Bangladesh to struggle, eventually folding at 146. India chased down the target and won by 7 wickets.

After the series sweep, Ashwin was named Player of the Series, his 11th title in Test cricket, equaling Sri Lanka’s legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan. Ashwin said, “I’m not comparing myself with him (Muralidharan). It’s a great milestone, and I’m pleased. At the end of the day, you’re playing a game you love, and it’s nice to take something away from it.”
