New Delhi, October 10: The world mourns the loss of Ratan Tata, a legendary industrialist who passed away at the age of 86. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed his condolences, describing Tata’s passing as “the end of an era.” He highlighted Tata’s significant role in modernizing and globalizing Indian industry.

Jaishankar shared his experiences with Tata, appreciating his vision and insights. He stated, “The passing away of Ratan Tata is the end of an era. He was deeply associated with the modernisation of Indian industry. And even more so with its globalisation. Was my privilege to have interacted with him on numerous occasions. And benefitted from his vision and insights. Join the nation in mourning his demise. Om shanti.”

Ratan Tata, who served as Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Tata’s last rites would be conducted with full state honors. The public can pay their respects at NCPA from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday.

In honor of Tata, the Maharashtra government canceled all scheduled programs in Mumbai. Minister Deepak Kesarkar confirmed the cancellations as a mark of respect.

Ratan Tata was a beloved figure in India, known for elevating the Tata Group and his philanthropic efforts. Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, he led Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012 and was later named Chairman Emeritus. In 2008, he received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award.
