In a thrilling match held in Kingstown, St Vincent, Rashid Khan’s Afghanistan team defeated Najmul Shanto’s Bangladesh by 8 runs using the DLS system. This victory allowed Afghanistan to qualify for the T20 World Cup semifinals for the first time ever, eliminating Australia from the race.

Afghanistan’s journey to the semifinals included impressive wins over cricket giants New Zealand and Australia. Rashid Khan played a crucial role in these victories, confusing opponents with his spin bowling.

After the match, Rashid Khan shared a photo on social media with Indian captain Rohit Sharma, celebrating their teams’ advancement to the semifinals. Rashid captioned the photo, ‘Bambai se aaya mera dost,’ referring to Rohit Sharma from Mumbai and their combined effort to eliminate Australia.

In the final Super 8s match, Afghanistan scored 115/5 in the first innings. Rain affected the second innings, reducing it to 19 overs with a target of 114 runs. Afghanistan’s bowlers, led by Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq, successfully defended the target, bowling out Bangladesh for 105 and securing an 8-run win.

With this victory, Afghanistan became the second team from Group 1, after India, to reach the semifinals. Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, ended up in third place in Group 1 with just two points, thus being eliminated from the tournament.
