Rajesh Verma Becomes New Chairperson of Air Quality Commission in New Delhi
Rajesh Verma, an officer of the 1987 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Odisha Cadre, has taken charge as the new full-time Chairperson of the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM). He was appointed for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Verma has over three-and-a-half decades of experience in public administration and governance. He has worked in various departments of the Central and state governments, including the President’s Secretariat, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Power, Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd. (REC), and various departments of the Odisha government. He has been a key stakeholder in addressing air pollution issues in these organizations.
Before his new role, Verma served as the Secretary to President Draupadi Murmu until his retirement on August 31, 2024. He succeeds MM Kutty, who completed his tenure as the full-time Chairperson of CAQM after leading the Commission for three years.
