Rajasthan Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra Discusses Gandhi Vatika Museum Amid Ashok Gehlot’s Protest Plans
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], September 23: A day after former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot warned the BJP-led government in Rajasthan of staging a protest on September 28 regarding the Gandhi Vatika Museum, Urban Development Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra provided updates on the situation.
Government Discussions Underway
Minister Kharra stated that discussions and decision-making processes are ongoing at the government level. He explained that the committee formed by the previous Gehlot government for the museum’s operation was canceled due to the excessive powers granted to it. A bill was passed during the last assembly sessions to revoke the committee’s powers.
Possible Management Options
Kharra mentioned that the museum could be managed by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), the Archeology Department, the Tourism Department, or a newly formed institution. He assured that a decision would be made soon to protect the investment in the museum and ensure it is accessible to the public.
Gehlot’s Criticism and Protest Plans
On Monday, former CM Ashok Gehlot criticized the current Rajasthan government, led by Bhajanlal Sharma, for delaying the museum’s opening. Gehlot announced a protest (dharna) on September 28 at Central Park, Jaipur, to address the issue.
In a social media post, Gehlot highlighted that the museum, built at a cost of about Rs 85 crore, has not been opened to the public despite being inaugurated a year ago. He also mentioned that he had written a letter to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, urging the museum’s opening to spread Mahatma Gandhi’s message of truth and non-violence.
