Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, visited relief camps in Manipur to meet and support victims of violence. He visited Moirang, Imphal, Jiribam, Churachandpur, and Tuibong village.

Details of the Visit

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi met victims at the relief camp at Moirang in Manipur’s Bishnupur. He also visited the Phubala High School relief camp in Moirang and the Jiribam Higher Secondary School relief camp. The Congress party shared updates on social media, highlighting his commitment to the people’s cause.

Background of the Violence

The violence in Manipur began on May 3 last year during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union to protest against the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.

Government’s Efforts

PM Modi stated that the government is working to normalize the situation in Manipur. Over 11,000 FIRs have been registered, and more than 500 people have been arrested. Efforts are being made to reduce incidents of violence and restore peace through interactions with all stakeholders.
