Rahul Gandhi Talks About Sealed Bank Accounts and Election Challenges in the US

Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, addressed an event in the Washington DC metro area, revealing that just months before the general elections in India, the Congress party’s bank accounts were sealed. This left them without funds for advertising or campaigning.

Gandhi recounted, “Three months before elections our bank accounts were all sealed… We were discussing that now what to do…I said ‘Dekhi Jayegi’, let’s see what we can do .. and we went into the elections…”

He shared that they had no money for advertising or transporting leaders, and discussed the situation with Mallikarjun Kharge and the treasurer. Despite these challenges, they fought the election with a spirit of resilience.

Gandhi emphasized that the fight in India is not just about politics but also about religious freedoms, such as whether a Sikh can wear a turban or a kada. He claimed that the fear of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has diminished after the 2024 elections, stating, “Something has changed after the elections. PM Modi tried to create an environment of fear… But, nothing worked. The fear vanished in one second.”

Earlier, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Modi-led government for freezing the party’s bank accounts, calling it an assault on India’s democracy.
