Rahul Gandhi Promises to Fight for Better Working Conditions After Tragic Death of EY Employee Anna Sebastian
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition and Congress leader, expressed his condolences to the family of Anna Sebastian, a 26-year-old EY employee who died from work-related stress. Gandhi pledged to improve working conditions for professionals in India and instructed the All India Professionals Congress (AIPC) to create an awareness movement in Anna’s memory. According to an official statement, Gandhi spoke to Anna’s parents via a video call arranged by AIPC Chairman Praveen Chakravarty. He praised the family’s courage to speak up about the issue and assured them of his support. Anna’s father, Sibi Joseph, mentioned that MP Suresh Gopi will raise the issue in Parliament.
Anna Sebastian, a chartered accountant from Kerala, worked at EY’s Pune office for four months before her death on July 20. EY expressed deep sadness and stated they are taking the family’s concerns seriously, emphasizing their commitment to employee well-being.
Anna’s death has sparked a nationwide debate on work-life balance, mental health, and corporate accountability, with mental health specialists urging employers to recognize that workers are human beings and not machines.
