Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting Planned After Donald Trump's Swearing-In
Japan is coordinating with the United States, Australia, and India to hold a Quad foreign ministers meeting following the swearing-in of US President-elect Donald Trump. Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi will attend the ceremony on January 20. During his visit, Japan aims to strengthen cooperation among the Quad nations for a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The Japanese government is also planning a meeting between Iwaya and the new US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to build trust and bolster the alliance between Japan and the US. A meeting between the leaders of Japan and the US is also being considered, pending US Senate approval of the Cabinet lineup.
India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony, invited by the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee. He will also meet with members of the incoming US administration and other dignitaries.
The Quad, comprising Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, is committed to an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific. The most recent Quad Leaders' Summit was hosted by US President Joe Biden in September, with leaders from Australia, Japan, and India attending.
