Two Major Smugglers Arrested

The Punjab Police have successfully dismantled an inter-state opium smuggling syndicate operating from Jharkhand. Two significant drug smugglers, Sukhyad Singh from Dalmir Khera and Jagraj Singh from Bhamma Singh Wala, were arrested. The police recovered 66 kg of opium hidden in specially designed compartments in their Maruti Swift car.

Details of the Arrest

Along with the opium, the police seized Rs 40000 in drug money and 400 grams of gold. The car and a tractor were also impounded. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, stated that the police have frozen 42 bank accounts containing Rs 1.86 crore linked to the drug syndicate.

Further Investigations

SSP Fazilka, Dr. Pragya Jain, shared that the police received reliable information about the smugglers’ activities. A strategic checkpoint was set up, leading to the successful interception of the vehicle. Despite an attempt to flee, both suspects were apprehended. One police officer sustained injuries during the chase.

The police have identified the mastermind behind the syndicate, who has been involved in smuggling for over two decades and faces multiple criminal charges. Efforts are ongoing to arrest him.

Legal Actions

A case has been registered under various sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Khuian Sarwar.
