US Secretary Blinken and India’s Jaishankar Discuss Iran’s Attack on Israel and Strengthen Ties
Washington DC [US], October 2: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to discuss various global issues, including a recent attack by Iran on Israel. Blinken condemned the attack, which involved 200 ballistic missiles, calling it ‘totally unacceptable.’ He emphasized the US’s support for Israel and their commitment to its defense.
Blinken stated, ‘Initial reports suggest that Israel, with the active support of the United States and other partners, successfully repelled the attack. We will remain in close contact with Israel and other regional partners in the coming hours and days.’
Jaishankar acknowledged the importance of addressing global issues and highlighted the progress made in the India-US partnership. He said, ‘On the bilateral front, we have achieved a lot since our last meeting, but there are also global issues to address, including some of the events you’ve mentioned today.’
Blinken praised the strong relationship between the US and India, noting recent meetings between Prime Minister Modi and President Biden. He said, ‘The warmth of that meeting and the ambition in the relationship are at an all-time high. This reflects the value that both countries place on this partnership.’
Jaishankar thanked Blinken for facilitating the meetings and expressed his eagerness for further discussions. He said, ‘It’s a great pleasure to be back in Washington and at the department. Let me begin by thanking you for the excellent meeting between the Prime Minister and the President in Delaware and a very successful Quad meeting.’
During his visit, Jaishankar has a series of meetings planned, including discussions with White House officials and an engagement at a think tank. This is his first visit to the US since the third Modi government took office.
