Punjab Police Arrests Three for Smuggling Illegal Weapons
In a significant operation, Punjab Police has arrested three individuals involved in smuggling illegal weapons from Madhya Pradesh into Punjab. The arrests were made in two separate operations by the Amritsar Rural Police. According to Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police in Punjab, the arrested individuals were providing logistical support to criminal gangs.
During the operations, the police recovered eight pistols, 17 live cartridges, and four magazines. DGP Yadav emphasized the commitment of Punjab Police to combat organized crime and dismantle illegal weapon smuggling networks by investigating both forward and backward linkages.
Recent Police Operations Against Crime
On October 9, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police seized five kilograms of heroin and Rs 3.95 lakh in drug money from Ajnala, disrupting a trans-border narcotic network. This intelligence-based operation led to the arrest of three individuals and the registration of a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Earlier, on October 8, Jalandhar Rural Police dismantled an interstate arms smuggling gang, arresting its leader and seizing five pistols. On October 7, Moga Police uncovered an illegal arms module operated by Jagga Dhurkot, a foreign-based handler, arresting seven gang members and recovering five pistols with cartridges and magazines.
On October 5, the Anti Gangster Task Force, in collaboration with Bathinda Police, apprehended Jaspreet Singh, the kingpin of the Jassa Burj Gang, along with three associates. They were involved in arms smuggling, snatching, and kidnapping, with 11 previous criminal cases against Jaspreet Singh. The operation resulted in the recovery of four pistols and 11 live cartridges.
