The Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry has declared October 30 as a holiday for all government offices, public sector undertakings, and educational institutions in Puducherry, Karaikal, and Yanam. This is in celebration of Deepavali Eve. To compensate, November 16 will be a working day.

Similarly, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a holiday on November 1 for government offices, schools, and colleges, allowing families to travel for Diwali. November 9 will be a compensatory working day.

In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, preparations are underway for a grand Diwali celebration at the Shri Ram Lalla Temple. Special lamps have been chosen to protect the temple from stains and soot. A retired Inspector General of Police is overseeing the decorations. The temple area is divided into sections for lighting, cleanliness, and decoration. Ayodhya plans to light over 2.5 million lamps during the Deepotsav festival, illuminating 55 ghats along the Sarayu River.
