PTI Cancels Protests to Focus on Big Lahore Rally on September 22
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to cancel its planned protests across the country to focus on a major rally in Lahore scheduled for September 22. This decision was made following instructions from Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan.
On September 10, PTI had called for nationwide protests against the detention of party lawmakers from the Parliament House. However, PTI leaders have now shifted their focus to mobilizing leaders, workers, and supporters for the upcoming Lahore event.
Hammad Azhar, PTI’s acting president in Punjab, announced the postponement of the protests on Thursday. He stated on social media platform X, “On the orders of Imran Khan, tomorrow’s protest is postponed. All focus on the Lahore rally. Prepare workers.”

PTI spokesman in Punjab, Shaukat Basra, mentioned that the Lahore rally would be a national-level public meeting, with leaders and workers invited from all provinces. He emphasized the importance of saving energy and mobilizing supporters for the event.
Basra explained that previous peaceful PTI activities had led to arrests and FIRs against party leaders and workers. Therefore, the party decided to focus its strength on the Lahore rally. PTI has applied for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the event, but the Lahore deputy commissioner has not yet responded. The party has approached the Lahore High Court, hoping for a favorable decision.
Basra stated, “The PTI is determined to hold its meeting in Lahore on Sept 22 come what may,” and added that the public meeting would proceed even without the NOC. He assured that PTI leaders and workers are fearless and ready to challenge the government.
