Kolkata (West Bengal), August 14: Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, along with other BJP MLAs, staged a protest inside the State Assembly on Wednesday. They were protesting over the rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Suvendu Adhikari stated, "CBI should tighten its grasp and take Sandip Ghosh (former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital), Dr. SP Das (personal physician of CM), and Vineet Goyal (Kolkata CP) under custody. Why did Sushanta Roy and Dr. Abhik go to RG Kar Medical College on 9th August? To destroy evidence? CBI should take steps immediately, otherwise, if needed, people of the state will raise their voices. BJP wants the resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee, who handles Health and Home Departments."
He added that while the entire state and country are in grief and women are living in fear, the CM is distributing biriyani. Adhikari emphasized, "We want the resignation of the Health Minister and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Today, even those who have never been on the streets are protesting, and doctors, nurses, and health officials have united to raise their voices. Doctors from private hospitals are also not doing OPD today. CM Mamata Banerjee is shamelessly celebrating Kanyashree Divas and biriyani would be distributed."
Adhikari vowed that the fight would continue until justice is delivered. "This fight will continue for a long time. This protest is against the state government. The incident has not taken place inside any home or street but inside the hospital where the entire responsibility of providing security was with the Health Ministry and Police department. And CM is the head of both departments," he further said.
He also mentioned that the BJP would organize protest marches at Raj Bhawan, State Secretariat, and Health Ministry office.
A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday to take over the investigation of the rape and murder case of a female trainee doctor, as ordered by the Calcutta High Court. The post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. An investigation has established rape and murder. Reportedly, the body of the deceased bore scratch marks, indicating that there was some struggle at the time of the incident. The family has reportedly alleged that the victim was raped and murdered.
